Call for Papers

Participatory local welfare, citizenship and third sector organizations. What is at stake? (PART_WEL Conference)

Pisa, 31st January – 1st February 2013

PART_WEL Conference will be structured along 3 Plenary Sessions and 2 Thematic Sessions. Each Thematic Session will be composed by 6 Streams, each of which will host a variable number of selected papers. In the section Streams (link) you can find the 6 Calls for Papers related to the Thematic Sessions.

1. Guidelines for the Papers

Please note that Papers are expected to:

  • Contribute to make the debate on participation in welfare policies and services wider and more qualified, with both theoretical and empirical contributions.

  • Stimulate the collaboration between scholars, policy-makers and practitioners working on the participation in welfare issues.

  • Address one or more of the issues proposed by the thematic Call for Papers.

Papers (at macro, micro and meso level) from any disciplinary field that respond to the previous aims are welcome. We will privilege papers that, based on empirical analysis, draw some theoretical conclusions about the main issues of the Thematic Sessions. Comparative approaches as well as in-depth case studies will be appreciated.

2. Content of the Abstract

The abstracts must include the research question, methods, results and any of the main references (for a maximum length of 3000 characters), besides the author’s name, affiliation and contact information.

3. Selection Process (important dates for authors)

a) The deadline to send an abstract proposal is September 27th, 2012.

Abstract proposals must be sent both to the Stream Coordinators and to the PART_WEL Secretariat ( Each abstract can be sent to only one Session.

b) Thenotification of selected abstracts will be given no later than October 8th, 2012.

c) The deadline to submit a Paper is January 7th, 2013.

Please note that the submission of the Paper will not accepted without the registration to the Conference and the payment of the registration fee.

4. Publication of the selected and discussed Papers

The PART_WEL organizers are working to build a publication strategy for the selected and discussed Papers.

a) E-Book of Proceedings (with ISSN code)

All these Papers, properly revised after the discussion in the Streams, will be published in a E-Book of Proceedings for the Volunteering and Participation Foundation Working Papers Series (ISSN: 2240-3272). The inclusion in the E-Book of Proceedings does not exclude the Paper be submitted for other kinds of publication.

b) Other projects in progress

Besides, the PART_WEL organizers are verifying the chance to develop further publication projects for the best contributions of the Conference.
